The importance of giving, and giving well
I’m really proud to be able to share that TWK has just made a donation of £8,520 to one of the UK’s top-ranked charities: Sightsavers.
We did this via the platform for corporate giving Work for Good which is a social enterprise established to make it easier for businesses to give to charity. Work for Good connects businesses to charities, and takes away all the problems (legal, admin, tax etc.) that businesses encounter in the giving process. The Web Kitchen has been an early adopter and supporter of Work for Good, since we recognise the responsibility that businesses have in effecting positive change in the world. We have a profile on the Work for Good website which shows the donation, and we featured in a video that Work for Good made to promote the work that they do:
Our 2018 donation was based on a commitment we made at Christmas to donate a percentage of all new projects won in December and January to charity. We did a similar thing last year as you can see here.
We chose Sightsavers because we wanted our donation to do the most good possible, and they are the top UK charity on Give Well – an organisation which analyses the effectiveness of giving money to different charities. You can read more about their analysis of Sightsavers here. As you can see it’s their deworming programmes that are particularly effective, so we’ve asked our donation to be used to extend that programme as much as possible.
If you would like to read more about the importance of getting the most out of charitable donations, this is a great blog post. If you want to read more about Effective Altruism more generally this site is the hub of it all, or I’d also recommend this book or this podcast.
If you’d like to ask us about any of this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
