Our charity partnership with Mary’s Meals
Making a positive impact on the world through our work has always been important to The Web Kitchen: we have so far donated over £45,000 to effective charities.
Over recent years we have made regular donations through Work for Good but in 2020 – the year the world was turned upside-down with COVID-19 – we decided to formalise charitable giving into the business to ensure that we continue to support those in need through difficult times.
We are therefore delighted to announce a partnership with a UK-based charity called Mary’s Meals. As I’ve written about before, we believe in the effective altruism movement so have chosen a charity that makes a significant difference with every pound donated. Mary’s Meals provides chronically hungry children with one meal every school day, encouraging education that can lift them out of poverty in later life. Remarkably, £15.90 is all it costs to feed a child for a whole school year and 93% of the money donated to Mary’s Meals is spent directly on that task.
The commitment we have made is that as of 1st July 2020, 2% of The Web Kitchen’s new project revenue will be donated to Mary’s Meals. This is on top of our regular support for charities through significant discounts of our fees. We have discounted fees for clients like the Elton John Aids Foundation, The Sutton Trust, Local Trust and the National Brain Appeal.
We also offset the carbon generated from our business activities since our foundation in 2006, you can read more about that here.
