Our latest team trip: Barcelona 2024

After a busy summer of successful website launches, the team at The Web Kitchen were ready to celebrate their hard work by swapping the office for the beachfront. In October we packed our bags and headed to Barcelona for an unforgettable three days of team-building fun.

Just weeks before heading on our adventure, we had a flurry of website launches including Farm Africa and OC&C, as well as school projects for City of London School, Cumnor House and Ardingly. Each one stretching ideas and pushing us to create memorable experiences that resonate with users.

After a busy summer, the leadership were keen to recognise everyone’s hard work and what better way to do that than sun, sea, sangria and… karaoke.

As a new member of the team, I was thrilled to receive an invitation to this trip and felt that it was a testament to how well the company treats its employees. Undoubtedly, having your first day on a plane with a group of soon-to-be close colleagues is a baptism of fire for a new joiner, however, everyone was very welcoming and the nerves melted away as easily as the ice slushies we were sipping just four hours later.

At the heart of the trip was team building and getting to know each other. Not only was this extremely beneficial for any new joiners, but it also brought existing team members closer, especially ones who work remotely outside of the UK.

Even the couple of hours work we did after breakfast each morning was super fun: there was a great sense of togetherness and shared endeavour as we all worked on laptops in the hotel lobby.

Aside from the work… highlights included an epic football match on the beach where colleagues battled it out whilst trying not to fall over in the sand. A personal highlight was touring the city on an electric scooter and soaking in the sights. Our group worked excellently at staying together and navigating Barcelona’s bustling streets.

Altogether I would sum up my onboarding experience and participation in this trip as a whirlwind of excitement that encapsulated the phrase ‘team spirit’. I am so grateful that the team invited me on this trip and I look forward to sharing many more exciting memories like this with my talented colleagues.
